UNCOVER Mannheim ist ein Designfestival, das sich in erster Linie der Gestaltung gesellschaftsrelevanter Veränderungsprozesse widmet. Design wird ein immer wichtiger werdender Bestandteil in Wissenschaft, Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft. Also überall dort, wo Innovationen durch kreativen Input, aber auch durch systemische Gestaltung entstehen. Die Kernfrage, mit der sich UNCOVER beschäftigen und darauf Antworten liefern will, ist: „Wie können wir unsere Welt besser machen?“

Das alle zwei Jahre stattfindende Designfest UNCOVER MANNHEIM geht aus der 2012 erstmals stattgefundenen Ausstellung FORMSCHAU hervor. 2016 besuchten über 2.000 Besucher das Designfest in Mannheim, welches unter dem Motto „Gastlichkeit“ seine gelungene Premiere feierte. Prominentester Redner war STEFAN SAGMEISTER, der vor über 600 Zuschauern zu „Happiness by Design“ in der voll besetzten Trinitatiskirche gesprochen hatte. 2018 stand UNCOVER ganz im Zeichen von "Revolution" und fand in der Mannheimer Multihalle statt. 2020 wollte sich das Festival dem Thema „Dekadenz“ widmen. Aufgrund der anhaltenden Corona-Pandemie haben sich die Organisator*innen dazu entschieden, das UNCOVER Designfest ins Jahr 2021 zu verschieben.

UNCOVER Mannheim besteht aus drei Grundmodulen:

Das UNCOVER Designfest: Konferenz, Vorträge, Workshops, Symposien und Diskussionen mit prominenten Vordenkern der internationalen Design-Szene – begleitet von Networking-Events, Parties und Happenings.

Der UNCOVER Designpreis: Im Rahmen von UNCOVER wird der – 2020 mit insgesamt 20.000 Euro dotierte – UNCOVER Designpreis in fünf Kategorien vergeben.

Die UNCOVER Formschau: Die öffentliche Ausstellung präsentiert die Nominierungen einer international besetzten Fachjury für den UNCOVER Designpreis: Design-Positionen, die Momente, Vorstellungen und Prozesse zum jeweiligen Festivalthema in den Blick nehmen – mit Produkten, Objekten, Installationen oder Initiativen.

UNCOVER Mannheim is a design festival that is primarily dedicated to the design of socially relevant change processes. Design is becoming an increasingly important component in science, society and business. So wherever innovations arise through creative input, but also through systemic design. The key question that UNCOVER wants to deal with and provide answers to is: "How can we make our world better?"

The biennial design festival UNCOVER MANNHEIM emerges from the FORMSCHAU exhibition, which took place for the first time in 2012. In 2016, over 2,000 visitors attended the design festival in Mannheim, which celebrated its successful premiere under the motto "hospitality". The most prominent speaker was STEFAN SAGMEISTER, who had spoken to over 600 people about "Happiness by Design" in the fully occupied Trinitatis Church. In 2018, UNCOVER was all about "revolution" and took place in the Multihalle Mannheim. In 2020 the festival wanted to focus on the topic of “decadence”. Due to the ongoing corona pandemic, the organizers have decided to postpone the UNCOVER design festival until 2021.

UNCOVER Mannheim consists of three basic modules:

The UNCOVER design festival: conference, lectures, workshops, symposia and discussions with prominent pioneers of the international design scene - accompanied by networking events, parties and happenings.

The UNCOVER design awards: Within the framework of UNCOVER, the UNCOVER design award - endowed with a total of 20,000 euros in 2020 - will be awarded in five categories.

The UNCOVER formschau: The public exhibition presents the nominations of an international jury for the UNCOVER Design Award: design positions that take into account moments, ideas and processes on the respective festival theme - with products, objects, installations or initiatives.
